Prepper’s Armed Defense is the latest book by author Jim Cobb. In it, he thoroughly explores the legal aspects, hows, and whys of defense, as well as both lethal and non-lethal options to help you protect yourself and others. But this isn’t just another book about guns, far from it. It is a book by a prepper for other preppers, and it is applicable in the here-and-now, not just in some far fetched Doomsday scenario.
The book begins by talking about situational awareness and how to avoid confrontations, then dives right in to the harsh realities of what happens personally as well as legally, when you have to use force in defense of self or others. Have you ever wondered how to choose a good, pepper spray? Or the difference between a Taser and a stun gun? How about using flashlights for defensive purposes? Yep, that’s all covered. Firearms are addressed in depth, as well. From how to pick a gun that’s right for you, to the importance of training and even gun care and maintenance — it’s all in there. Projectile weapons, knives, and homemade and melee weapons are also examined in depth. I especially enjoyed the chapter on force multipliers, where the author examines alarms, surveillance systems, and booby traps.
This book gives a great overview of defense from the perspective of a prepper. While it does an exceptional job at that, it is no substitute for more advance education and training, nor does it pretend to be. I highly recommend the book for anyone who is interested in becoming more serious about prepping and wishes to find out practical ways that they can improve their personal defense options while also exploring the implications of having to use weapons in defense of self and others. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
